WISDOM
Why does it seem like we always want everything EXCEPT what God has for us and wants to give us? We devote our prayers to asking God for stuff; money, a job, a car, a house, a spouse. Yet, we fail to ask God for the one thing He said He will generously give us, WISDOM (James 1:5). Most likely because we don’t see how wisdom can benefit us, at least in an immediate, tangible way. But this is far from the truth. Not only can wisdom benefit us in the present, but also in the future. For how many times have we made a decision that we suffered the consequences for immediately, and suffered years later. Or how many times have we made a wise decision that we reap the benefits from years later, like saved money that helped pay for an unexpected emergency.
Not only will wisdom help us avoid some costly mistakes, but more importantly it will help us to understand truth from error. It will help us to recognize when things are from God or from the devil. It will help lead us or someone we know to God’s will, His ways. It will give us deeper understanding in order to solve problems. It will help us to help others with their issues.
The truth is that no matter how much knowledge we have or degrees we have earned, if we don’t have godly wisdom, it’s difficult to live a victorious Christian life. Reason being, worldly wisdom does not help us accomplish the things of God. Only wisdom that comes from God will reflect in our spiritual walk, thus producing good works, good fruit. It will be seen in how we behave, how we live. (James 3:13)
For this reason we must be careful proclaiming to be “spiritual” yet our decision making and lifestyle does not reflect godly wisdom. True godly wisdom comes from above (God) and the proof is in our Christian walk, not our talk. So if our lives are filled with disorder, chaos, no direction, lack of peace, no joy, multiple bad relationship and just poor decisions …it could be that we lack godly wisdom. Could be that we are relying on worldly wisdom to dictate our thought process. Could be we are chasing selfish ambition, which is of the world, not of God. (James 3:14-16)
Let us seek to attain the jewel that is more precious than silver or gold called wisdom. Let us no longer lean on our own understanding. Let us no longer seek to think like the world, but rather let God transform our minds through His Word. Let us pray for the one thing that God said He will generously give. Seek godly wisdom!
