Proverbs 28:6

DaySpring Daily Word of Inspiration: Proverbs 28:6 – Better the poor whose walk is blameless than the rich whose ways are perverse.

Sometimes don’t you wish you had more than what you do? Well what would you do with it if you had it? I know for myself I wanted to be rich, famous and an elite figure in society. I wanted folks to know me by name! Well guess what, God gave it to me!! The bad part about it all was when I got it, I wasn’t concerned about his stuff any longer. I didn’t think about how I could use my new found riches to increase his kingdom. I didn’t consider my new status as a means of making sure people knew who Jesus was and what he had done for us all.

Now that was just me and maybe you have never experienced anything like the sort….maybe you have. At the end of the day, I couldn’t handle such a blessing because of my mindset when I was given more. I indulged in what I wanted, did what I wanted and EVERYTHING else was ahead of God and what he wanted for my life. I think it’s safe to say, when we get more of stuff (money, status, awards) we can stray from the path that God wants for our lives. Let me say this, THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH BEING RICH! So don’t think that if you have a talent or ability you’re not supposed to use it and/or make your living from it if you can. The challenge is what do you do when you get rich? What are you priorities? What good are you doing with the resources God gave you? How are you using the status that God gave you for his kingdom?

I thought it was a curse when God took away my “riches & esteem”. However, as I matured in Christ it was his humbling that helped me to get to this point of total trust in him and his word. I was made “poor” again to see how much I needed Christ. When I had it “all”, I didn’t feel like I needed anybody or anyone’s help……not even God’s. In a sense, I was my own god. I had made it all happen, I made myself a success. God had to show me who was really in control.

This humbling experience allowed me to see that on my own actions and when given more, I am would make bad decisions because of a lack of a real understanding and relationship with Christ. But me with God’s very own mindset would bring him glory and he would elevate me to what he knows I can sustain.

If you feel “poor” maybe it’s God’s way of keeping you safe from yourself. If God hasn’t made you rich, maybe it’s because he already knows you couldn’t handle $60,000, why would he give you $60,000,000? Let him keep you where he has you so YOU don’t turn away from what he has intended for you in the life to come.

Let’s pray today for strength and contentment while on this earth. That God give us what we need to make it through each day and even some of our wants that are good for us – knowing that we may never be rich here on earth but by being obedient to His word we have a hope to more than billionaires in his kingdom. Have a blessed day all and move forward in putting God first in your daily life. In Jesus’ name, AMEN!
