Proverbs 22:6

DaySpring Daily Word of Inspiration: Proverbs 22:6 – Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.

As we stay in the mode of changing our mindsets and keeping to the form of letting God’s word dwell in our lives, we get to the point of being able to teach others. It is said that church starts at home. For that matter, everything starts at home! The way we act in public, how we respond in various situations, how our manners are, how we speak, our cleanliness, how we deal with people and on and on. All of these lessons are learned when we’re in the schooling moments of our home lives.

An important aspect to consider is that your children learn more from what they see than from what you tell them. This is key because as a Christian believer, there are certain things in your life that you should be doing at all times….why? Well as the passage is saying today, whether you’re doing it intentionally or not, you’re training your child to do, act, and be a certain way. The issue with that is, depending on how you’re acting and conducting yourself, this will give your child a depiction of what they think they should be doing as they grow up.

As we’re looking at how to let God tear down the junk we’ve built up in our lives, we need to be conscious of what we teach our kids through our actions. Have you ever heard the phase, “Do as I say and not as I do”. Now it sounds good and even a bit genius. However, the reality is that it works the other way around.

Remember children are like sponges. They absorb everything!! The problem with kids as sponges is that they have pores too. Just like sponges, their pores let stuff out. The stuff that is being let out is most of the stuff you’re telling them. Unfortunately, like a sponge, it holds on to all of the germs and nasty stuff that it collects. Surprise….that’s just like our children. All of the nasty, germy, negative stuff that we do (our actions) will stick with them. Don’t think so? Ever asked your child where they picked up a trait and then tried to blame it on the other parent but really knew it was YOU? It becomes evident. The worst part is that their actions are about 3-5 times worse than yours were.

Today we want to become more conscious about how we’re supposed be conducting ourselves in this Christian life. God is watching, your friends are watching, and of course your children are watching too. You have a choice; you can set a Christian example for your children and allow that impression to mold their existence or you can keep acting how you want and hope for the best. The scriptures are clear. The only question is do you believe it? Or do you want it to prove itself?

Move forward with the power and instruction that God has given you and reap the benefits of obedience. Have a great day and be amazing for all how are watching you. We pray all of these things in Jesus’ name, AMEN!
